Al Hirt was born in New Orleans in 1922. At just six years old, he mastered the trumpet and played at the Saenger Theater that same year. He was one of the most popular musicians in the country, having played for 6 U.S. presidents and Pope John Paul II. Al was a fun guy who loved New Orleans food and stood a little over 6ft. tall, affectionately earning the nickname Jumbo!
